Exercise: Build a Skill for the thing you re-explain most
Time: 15–20 minutes
In this exercise you'll turn a task you repeat often into a real, working skill — frontmatter, instructions, and all — then test it in Claude Code against a live request.
Step 1—Choose Your Task
Pick a task you find yourself explaining to Claude over and over. Code reviews, commit messages, documentation formats, debugging checklists, test-writing conventions — anything you re-describe every time it comes up.
Describe the task in your own words and list what you typically tell Claude each time.
What task do you find yourself explaining to Claude repeatedly? Describe the task and what you typically tell Claude each time.
You've built a real, working skill that solves a problem in your own workflow — this is the pattern you'll use every time you want to teach Claude something new.
